Cistanche is a well-known traditional Chinese medicine, which was initially recorded in the《Shennong Medical Herba Records》as the top grade medicine material. Cistanche deserticola is one kind of cistanche that grows mainly in Xinjiang's desert in China. It is one of the valuable traditional Chinese medicine herbs in Northwest China and is known as "desert ginseng".

Cistanche parasitizes in the dry desert area of - 20 ~ 50 ℃ all year-round. The desert’s extremely harsh living environment has enriched the Cistanche with excellent medical efficacy. It has the effects of encouraging kidney Yang, enriching blood bowel to relieve constipation. It has been the most frequently used medical herb for Kidney Yang encouragement in all dynasties.
