1. Research progress of chemical composition

The traditional Chinese medicine Cistanche is one of the commonly used traditional Chinese medicines. Because of its special effects and obvious effects, it is known as the holy product of tonics. The species included in the 2000 edition of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia is Cistanche [1], but in recent years, due to the decline in the production of cistanche in Inner Mongolia, it cannot meet the national supply. In some areas, Cistanche has been used as medicine instead of Cistanche [2]. Chinese scholars have conducted in-depth research on the two plants Cistanche and Cistanche tubulosa.

Xu Wenhao [3] and others made a systematic study on the chemical components of genuine Cistanche, isolated 19 compounds from it, and identified 16 compounds. Among them, Cistanche glycoside B.C.H was reported for the first time for this plant. Xu Zhaohui [4] and others isolated Cistanche, catalpol, syringoside, salidroside, 2, 5-dioxo-4-imidazolidinyl from the ethanol extract of Cistanche produced in Alxa League of Inner Mongolia. 10 compounds of carbamate, mannitol, β-sitosterol, carotene, and betaine.

Xue Dejun [5] obtained four compounds from the n-butanol extract of the ethanol extract of Cistanche Tubulosa, which were identified as β-sitosterol, D-mannitol, carotin, and succinic acid. D-glucose and D-fructose are obtained from the jellyfish liquor. The above compounds are the first reports in this plant. Song Zhihong, Tu Pengfei [1], and others studied the chemical constituents of Cistanche Tubulosa and isolated 4 iridoid glycosides, 1 lignan glycoside, and 1 monoterpene compound, among which geniposide, Yuleaf anthocyanin, and syringin glucoside were isolated from this plant for the first time, and 8-hydroxy geraniol was isolated from this genus for the first time.

2. Research progress in pharmacology

2.1 Strengthening effect

Cistanche yang drugs can increase the DNA synthesis rate of animals with "yang deficiency" caused by hydroxyurea and have obvious strong and therapeutic effects on animals with yang deficiency [6].

2.2 Antioxidant and anti-aging effects

Sun Yun [7] and others used Cistanche to treat experimental pulmonary aging model mice damaged by ozone. They were given 50 and 100 mg kg per day by gavage for 6 weeks. The results showed that the treatment group mice tolerated hypoxia for longer, increased serum and lung SOD activity in aging mice, decreased MDA content, and reduced the structure and structure caused by lung oxidative damage caused by ozone. The change of function delays lung aging. Xue Dejun [8] and others made Cistanche extracts into anti-aging preparations and conducted research on the elimination of lipid peroxides in the blood. The results show that anti-aging granules can significantly improve the body's aging symptoms, restore the energy, physical strength, and vitality of middle-aged and elderly people, and have a good effect of delaying aging.

2.3 Regulating immune function

Cistanche can significantly enhance the specific and non-specific immune functions of organisms [6-9].

2.4 Androgen-like effects

Cistanche is the most frequently used medicine in prescriptions for nourishing kidney and strengthening yang in the past. It is one of the famous tonic medicines, second only to ginseng. Zhang Dejun [10] and others used Cistanche Decoction to gavage male mice for 2 to 3 weeks and found that it can indeed promote the spermatogenesis of the testis and improve the microenvironment of the epididymis. Song Guizhen, He Wei [11, 12], and others determined that the ergosteroside and betaine in Cistanche have androgenic effects.

2.5 laxative effect

The water decoction of Cistanche medicine has an obvious laxative effect, improves bowel movement, inhibits water absorption in the large intestine, and shortens the time of defecation. It is effective for old habitual constipation, constipation due to physical weakness, and postpartum constipation.

3. Clinical application

The traditional Chinese medicine Cistanche has a sweet and salty taste, is warm in nature, moisturizing and liquid, and it returns to the kidney and large intestine meridian. It has the effects of nourishing essence and blood, moistening the intestines and laxative, and is a product of yin and yang. It is often used to treat impotence in men, infertility in women, cold pain in the waist and knees, and constipation [1 3, 1].

Clinically, Xingyang Fire is used to treat impotence caused by kidney deficiency [1 4], Wuzi Yanzong Pill [1 5] is used to treat male infertility, and liver and kidney are adjusted to treat infertility, and Angelica nourishing blood soup plus Cistanche, Danggui Shouwu Decoction is beneficial. Qi Runchang Liquid etc. treats habitual constipation. In addition, medicines containing Cistanche are also used to treat senile polyuria, diabetes, deafness, aortic Hey, and anti-aging.
