There Are Five Types Of Baldness
Dec 23, 2022
It is often manifested by the sudden appearance of round or oval patches of hair loss with clear borders on the head, which can be single or multiple, with no obvious conscious symptoms. According to Chinese medicine, there are three reasons for the onset of baldness: first, physical weakness, external evil attacks, and prolonged illnesses lead to damage to the functions of the liver, spleen, and kidneys, resulting in a lack of sources for the biochemical production of essence, qi, and blood, which makes it difficult to moisten and nourish the hair; second, the body's Yang-heat is strong, and the body is addicted to spicy food, so the hair roots of the scalp are easily injured by the wind-heat evil, and over time, this hurts the yin and depletes the fluids, resulting in the loss of nourishment for the hair; third, the internal organs become dysfunctional due to emotional excesses and poor diet. As a result, qi and blood stagnation and blood stasis are disturbed, making it difficult for the essence and blood to be distributed to the top of the head, and the hair roots are not nourished, leading to hair loss. How to use Chinese medicine to treat baldness? There are two major difficulties in the treatment of baldness, especially heavy baldness: first, it is difficult to treat, and second, it is even more difficult to treat and consolidate recurrence. Through long-term clinical research, Liu believes that the onset of baldness in children is mainly related to congenital endowment and the spleen and stomach, while in adults it is mostly related to mental tension and increased psychological stress. In the case of baldness, it falls under the category of "oil wind" (also known as ghost shaving, oil wind poisoning, etc.) in Chinese medicine, and Liu Aimin classifies patients with baldness into the following categories.

1. Blood heat and wind dryness. The body contains heat or over-eating hot and pungent taste, or the emotion suppresses depression and fire, the blood is hot and produces wind and dryness, the hair root is not nourished by yin and blood, the hair suddenly falls off. The treatment is based on cooling the Blood and quenching the wind, nourishing Yin and protecting the hair.
2. Liver stagnation and blood stasis. The liver is the master of draining, regulating the qi and emotions, long-term mental stimulation leads to liver loss of draining, qi depression, blood stasis hair orifice, hair root loss, so that the rapid emergence of patchy hair loss, mostly seen in young adults and middle-aged people. The condition of patchy alopecia progresses quickly, and in severe cases, eyebrow hair, axillary hair and pubic hair will be lost. Before the onset of the disease, the patient often has a history of stressful work and study, or mental depression, accompanied by scalp pain, nervousness, little sleep and dreaminess, light red tongue or petechiae, thin coating, etc. The main treatment is to dredge the liver and invigorate blood, nourish blood and regenerate hair, and the formula is to add and subtract Punyao San and Tongjiao Wuhe Tang.
3. Blood deficiency and wind dryness. The "Surgery Zhengzong" contains: "oil wind is blood deficiency can not follow the gas glory nourishing skin, so hair root empty, fall off into pieces, skin shiny, itchy like insects line, this are wind-heat take advantage of the deficiency and attack the injection." Explain that the scalp is empty, the external wind take advantage of the deficiency and enter, so that the hair root empty loose, lose its moistening, patchy hair loss. It is mostly seen after illness or postpartum hair loss, with progressive aggravation, ranging from small to large, and in severe cases, eyebrow hair will fall off, accompanied by fatigue, yellow face, dizziness, palpitation, shortness of breath, insomnia and dreaminess, etc. The main treatment is to nourish Qi and Blood and consolidate hair, and the formula is Shen Ying Yang Zhen Dan plus or minus.
4. Spleen deficiency and loss of transportation. If the spleen is deficient, food accumulates easily, resulting in a mixture of deficiency and actuality, which eventually leads to weak blood to nourish the hair and result in baldness. This symptom is usually seen in young children or children, manifesting as a thin and weak body, yellowish face, little food or easy to accumulate food, light white spots on the face, dry and loose stools, light red tongue, thick and greasy moss or cloudy.
5. Liver and kidney deficiency. The liver is responsible for drainage and blood collection. If the liver is deficient, the blood cannot be transported and transformed, which is not enough to nourish the hair. The kidney collects essence, the essence deficiency can not produce Yin blood, blood does not nourish the hair, the muscle coup is not moistened, the hair has no source of growth, the hair root is empty and the hair falls into pieces. Patients are mostly above 40 years old or after a long illness, hair loss is often in the form of large patches, and in severe cases it develops into total or general baldness, or there is a family history of hair loss. The treatment is based on nourishing the liver and kidneys, filling in the essence of hair growth, and the formula is enhanced with Qibao Meihu Dan. For Yang deficiency, add Baji Tian and Gui Zhi; for Yin deficiency, add Zhi Mu and Dry Lotus Grass; for Qi deficiency, add Huang Qi; for blood stasis, add Phellodendron leaf and Dan Shen; for insomnia and dreaminess, add Nightshade and Sour Jujube, etc.

Baldness in children has become very common in recent years, and the cause may be genetically related. In addition to hair loss, many children have weakness of the spleen and stomach or food accumulation, resulting in a thin and yellow face. The treatment should be based on the spleen and stomach. The medication should mainly be used to dissipate and transport the disease, supplemented by strengthening the spleen and tonifying it. There are also some patients with recurrent baldness, which have two types of manifestations: recurrence or multiple recurrences after cure, and long-term treatment, but the hair loss areas rise and fall, making it difficult to cure completely, both in children and adults. The key to treatment is consolidation after cure, with children focusing on tonifying the spleen and kidneys, and adults focusing on draining the liver and tonifying the kidneys. Those with obvious Qi deficiency can take Astragalus under the guidance of a doctor. Comprehensive treatment has a synergistic effect on baldness. Chinese medicine treatment can be supplemented with plum needle snapping, photonic hair growth device irradiation or TDP irradiation of the hair loss area, plus Chinese medicine acupuncture point injection once a week.

Hormones should not be used lightly. For patients with first-episode heavy baldness, especially total baldness and general baldness, when the condition develops quickly, the use of small doses of corticosteroids can be considered for oral or local injection, which can achieve faster results, but it is easy to relapse after stopping the use of hormones. For recurrent baldness, the use of hormones is not recommended and is not effective. Once you develop baldness, you should go to a regular hospital for treatment. Blindly using medication or believing in folk remedies will not be effective and will delay your condition.
