Tubular Cistanche, commonly known as Red Willow and Dayun, is a plant of the genus Cistanche in the family Orobaceae. It parasitizes the roots of Red Willow and is one of the precious Chinese herbal medicines with a wide range of uses in traditional Chinese medicine. Since ancient times, it has been used as a strong and nourishing herb for more than 100 years. It is second only to ginseng in anti-aging, anti-Alzheimer's disease, and life-prolonging prescriptions, so it has the reputation of "desert ginseng". Cistanche deserticola

The morphological characteristics of Tubular Cistanche: Tubular Cistanche is mainly composed of a reed head, stem, bracts, flowers, and seeds. Lutou is a tissue that is formed by the parasitic relationship between the seeds of Cistanche deserticola and the root system of Red Willow and can continuously produce many adventitious buds. It has strong reproductive ability and is a perennial parasitic tissue, tightly attached to the top of the root system of the red willow. It absorbs water and nutrients from the root of the red willow through internal suckers to grow and develop. The stem of Cistanche tubulosa, also known as the succulent stem, is an annual tissue. As it grows on the head of the reed, it mainly grows underground. In high-temperature environments from May to June, it grows rapidly and can stretch out to the ground before flowering and fruiting, forming hollow stems that lose their medicinal value. Growth habits of Cistanche deserticola: Land: Suitable for sandy loam with good permeability and water permeability, with a groundwater level of 3-8 meters and a soil pH value of 8.0-9.0, with low requirements for soil organic matter content. Temperature: The growth of Cistanche deserticola has strict requirements for temperature. If the temperature is too low, it is easy to freeze and rot. If the temperature is too high, the growth of the reed head begins to enter a semi-dormant state and is very slow. The suitable temperature for its growth period is 5-28 ℃, and the ground temperature is 5-20 ℃. The optimal temperature for growth and development is 15-25 ℃, and the ground temperature is 10-20 ℃. Water content: As a parasitic plant, the tube flower flesh can still absorb the necessary water through the parasitic red willow in an environment with a soil moisture content of 17.3%, maintaining normal growth and development. To ensure the normal growth of Dayun, and to further differentiate multiple growth points (buds) on the head of Dayun, and increase the yield of Dayun, it is necessary to ensure the water requirement for the growth and development of the host red willow. At the beginning of winter, the soil moisture content should be maintained below 10% to avoid freezing damage.

The breeding characteristics of Tubular Cistanche: When the seeds of Tubular Cistanche mature, detach from the fruit, and fall on the sand, they are affected by the dry environment and will not rot for a long time.
