Cistanche deserticola Y.C.Ma, a traditional Chinese medicine for tonifying the kidney, is recorded in the 2015 edition of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. It is a succulent stem of the genus Cistanche in the family Lewandaceae, mainly distributed in Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Gansu, Qinghai, and Xinjiang. Cistanche deserticola and Tubular Cistanche deserticola have extremely high medicinal value. They enter the kidney and large intestine meridians. The Compendium of Materia Medica records that Cistanche deserticola "is a nourishing but not severe substance, so it is called Cistanche deserticola" and "it is warm but can moisten, replenish but not dry, smooth but not diarrhea".

It has the effects of tonifying kidney yang, benefiting essence and blood, moistening the intestines, and defecating. [Ingredients]

100g yellow bullwhip, paired with 15g goji berries, 50g deserticola, and 500g plump hen.

Supplemented with 6g Sichuan pepper, 30g lard, 20ml Shaoxing wine, 10g table salt, and 20g ginger, simmer together.

[Production]

1. The bullwhip is soaked in hot water for 5 to 6 hours, during which the hot water is constantly changed to keep it warm.

2. Then cut it in half, clean it carefully, and soak it in cold water for half an hour. Wash the chicken and set aside.

3. Filter the goji berries thoroughly and remove impurities.

4. After washing the Cistanche deserticola, moisten it thoroughly with an appropriate amount of Shaoxing wine, steam for two hours, then slice and wrap it in gauze.

5. Wash ginger and pat loose for later use.

6. Pour about 8000 milliliters of water into a sand pot, add a bullwhip, and bring to a boil. After removing the foam, add ginger, Sichuan pepper, Shaoxing wine, and chicken. Bring to a boil over high heat, then simmer over low heat.

7. Flip it every hour to prevent sticking to the pot. When simmering until six ripe, filter out ginger and Sichuan pepper, bring to a boil again, then add goji berries and cistanche, and continue simmering over low heat.

8. When the bullwhip is almost cooked, cut it into three centimeter-long sections and put it back into the pot until it is cooked.

9. Chicken is used for other purposes, while medicine packs are discarded.

10. Finally, add salt and lard to season.
