1. Different hosts

Cistanche is mainly produced in Alashan, Inner Mongolia. Because of its many "families" of Cistanche, the desert plants that it parasitizes are also different. Among them, the medicinal Cistanche takes Haloxylon as its host and parasitizes on the roots, so it is also called thorax.

Cistanche tubulosa is mainly produced in Xinjiang, and it was included in the "Chinese Pharmacopoeia" in 2005. Because it mainly parasitizes the roots of red willows, it is also called Liu Yun.

2. Different shapes and textures

Cistanche deserticola is also called soft daikon in the market. It has a soft texture and is mostly cylindrical.

3. Different sections

The section of Cistanche deserticola is more meaty, and its vascular bundles are corrugated rings. High-quality cistanche has good light transmission and strong gelatinous texture, which is what we often call oily.
