Adili Abduniyazi, the secretary of the Hetian County Township Party Committee, said that a farmer can earn 15000 yuan per year by inoculating Dayun with 18 red willow trees they planted themselves. The practice in this township has shown that poverty-stricken households can achieve poverty alleviation by planting 10 acres of high-yield Cistanche deserticola.

Developing the Cistanche deserticola industry will help to sustain targeted poverty alleviation in desertification areas. Currently, Hetian Dichen Company has a 500000-acre Cistanche deserticola planting base, radiating to 7 counties and 91 townships in Hetian, and has helped 200000 people out of poverty. In the future, it plans to plant 1 million acres of red willows to benefit more farmers, which will solve the poverty alleviation problem of 700000 people in the Hetian area.

The large-scale cultivation of red willows and the development of the Cistanche industry have not only played an important role in improving the natural environment and preventing wind and desertification, but have also become a path for farmers to become rich, enabling local farmers to realize their dream of "searching for gold in the sand", effectively promoting ethnic harmony and border stability, promoting targeted poverty alleviation work in Xinjiang, promoting local economic ecology, increasing local enterprise vitality, and promoting local economic prosperity. Cistanche deserticola is a plant that parasitizes the roots of red willows, and the desert around Hotan is its main habitat. To plant Cistanche deserticola, the host red willow, also known as tamarisk, must be planted first. Red willow, which is drought-resistant, sand-resistant, and salt-alkali-resistant, is an important sand-fixing plant. The cultivation of Cistanche deserticola and Red Willow promote each other, which can not only control the desert, improve the soil, and develop the desert into suitable farmland, but also become an important way for farmers and herdsmen in the Hotan area to lift themselves out of poverty and become prosperous.

In 2006, the United Nations Development Programme invested $600000 and the government allocated $1.5 million to plant 9000 acres of Cistanche deserticola on the southern edge of the Taklamakan Desert in the Hotan area of Pishan, Yutian, and Luopu.

Starting from 2017, with the support of team technology, Hetian Dichen Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Co., Ltd. has collaborated with local farmers and herdsmen to plan to plant an additional 1 million mu, or 100 million red willows, in key ecological areas of Hetian, Xinjiang. This will restore desert vegetation dominated by red willows, rebuild the ecological barrier of red willow forests, and inoculate them into Dayun, forming a large-scale benefit for the Dayun industry.

The large-scale cultivation of red willows and the development of the Cistanche industry have played an important role in improving the natural environment and preventing wind and desertification. The Red Willow and Big Cloud are green mountains and clear waters, building an ecological protection zone in the desert, and reducing the annual sandstorm weather in Hotan by 1/4. The Cistanche deserticola industry has created a miracle of sustainable desert management, which is of great significance for ecological restoration.
