Cistanche

Aliases: Rousongrong, Zongrong, Goblin, Jinsun, Dayun.

Medicinal parts: fleshy stems with scaly leaves.

Nature and flavor: warm; sweet and salty.

Return meridian: Return to the kidney and large intestine meridian.

The efficacy of Cistanche: invigorating the kidney and yang, nourishing the essence and blood, moistening the intestines and laxative, used for infertility, weakness in the waist and knees, weakness of the muscles and bones, dry intestines, and constipation.

Usage: Oral decoction, 9~15g; or into pills or powder; or soak in wine.

Taboo: Forbidden to use for those with strong phase fire, loose stools with a weak stomach, and solid hot stools.

Properties: This product is flat cylindrical, slightly curved, 3~15cm long and 2~8cm in diameter. The surface is brown or gray-brown, densely covered with fleshy scale leaves arranged in tile-like shapes. The apex of the scale leaves is usually broken, heavy, hard, slightly flexible, not easy to break, and the cross-section is brown with light brown dotted vascular bundles arranged in a Wavy ring pattern. The smell is weak, the taste is sweet and slightly bitter.

Place of Origin: Gansu, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia.

Legend: Cistanche is produced in the northwest. Legend has it that the semen of the horse fell on the ground to give birth to Cistanche. Horses belong to Yang, because the horse runs fast, indicating that the horse is yang, while the semen of the horse is yin.

The effective ingredients of Cistanche: phenoxyethanol glycosides (including Echinacoside and Acteoside), polysaccharides, flavonoids, lignans, etc.
