Abstract:

 Objective Phytochemicals are a class of substances contained in plants with different health functions in addition to essential nutrients, which are low molecular weight bioactive substances. Cistanche extract contains a variety of active ingredients with obvious beneficial effects on the human body, and it has been found to have health benefits such as laxatives, cellular immune function enhancement, and liver protection. In this study, the acute toxicity, short-term toxicity, and genotoxicity were evaluated to establish a scientific basis for the development of healthcare functions of the product.

 The acute oral toxicity test and 90-day oral toxicity test were used to evaluate the general toxicity of Cistanche extract, and three mutagenicity tests (Ames test, mouse bone marrow multi-stained erythrocyte micronucleus test and in vitro mammalian cell chromosome aberration test) were used to evaluate the genotoxicity of Cistanche extract, all of which were performed according to national standards. Salmonella. The strains were TA97, TA98, TA100 and TA102, all provided by MOLTOX, USA, and identified by our laboratory as meeting the requirements. The animals had normal feeding and drinking, normal fecal characteristics, no obvious behavioral changes and toxic manifestations, and no animal death.
